An Introduction to Some of San Francisco's Top Hiking Spots
With more than 10 years of experience in sales, Stefan Kuftedjian serves as an enterprise account executive at New Relic in San Francisco. Outside of work, Stefan Kuftedjian enjoys fishing and hiking.
Some of the top hiking spots in the San Francisco Bay Area include:
- Angel Island. Hikers who catch a ferry to the island will find several trails to explore. The 5.5-mile Perimeter Trail rewards visitors with views of the San Francisco Bay and city skyline. Angel Island hikers can trek to the top of Mount Livermore for an overhead look at the Bay Bridge, Golden Gate, and Alcatraz.
- Mount Tamalpais. Located in Marin County, this peak is home to the Matt Davis-Steep Ravine Loop. A 7.5-mile round trip, the loop takes hikers from the mountains to the sea, crossing grasslands and wandering through forests of redwoods and Douglas firs. Visitors looking for a shorter hike can explore the mountain's East Peak, which rises 2,570 feet above San Francisco, Northern Marin, and the East Bay.
- Dipsea Trail. This 9.5-mile trail starts in Mill Valley and ends on Stinson Beach. The path is not an easy one, but the scenery makes the work worth it. Along the trail, hikers will encounter the steep Dipsea Stairs, Mount Tamalpais, and redwood forests.
